Moon’s Tale of 6 Gamers - Home
Month 1 has drawn to a close with a rush of activity from all players involved! To take you all back and remind you of the task at hand, each ...
For My ‘Age of the Emperor’ Lists im definatly going to have at least 1 mob of 30 Shoota Boyz (probably with a wierdboy). They are a very fun unit pumping out tons of Dakka on thier march to the enemy lines transporting thier resident Nob with Klaw.
As much as i do enjoy painting Orks, the prospect of painting 1 mob of 30 (let alone the other 70 i have planned) is weighing heavy on my mind, however i have decided to bite the bullet and just knuckle down!
I spent long enough on my first 5 ‘Ard Boyz, protoyping the techniques i wanted to use i am pretty happy of the order in which to do each step to make the job as quick and effective as possible. See below for a picture diary of how things pan out:
Step 1 | Undercoat - easy enough!
Step 2 | Dry brushing the Gun Metal - pretty easy task, and all done in 45 minutes (while watching an episode of Voyager)
Step 3 | Skin basecoat -time consuming and boring! - about 1 hour 30 minutes. i half wonder weather just a green wash would have done as this phase only makes up the very deepest shading and the black would probably surficed - but if a job is worth doing…
Step 4 | Thakra Green wash on skin - easy peasy - 15 mins
Step 5 | Dry brush the skin with mid tone - took about 2 hours, quite satisfying!
Step 6 | Drybrush pants/boots….
Having tinkered around for quite some time making sure I was happy with the painting technique for my Bad Moonz (with slight Goff influence) colour schemes and basing i have finally finished the first 5 ‘Ard Boyz!
I expect the rest to follow pretty quickly now I have the scheme and technique set in stone, however transferring it to vehicles and my Stompa could be an interesting challenge!
Here are the pictures:
Well…I really got out of the habit of updating this blog! But with the impending plethora of projects i have on the go with impending deadlines I decided it
As a quick visual update here’s my new ‘fully painted’ army picture. new additions to the ‘painted’ ranks are:
- 5 terminators
- 1 Daemon Prince
- 10 Chaos Space Marines
and an update to my ‘wishlist’ of finished models:
-Daemon Prince
-Marine Squad
-Abaddon
-5 Man Terminator Squad
-Defiler
-Landraider
-Zerker squad
I have also started painting my Abaddon model which i hope to finish this weekend, ill post pics up when i have. From what seemed an ambitious challenge a few weeks ago now seems to be within grasp! lets hope i can keep the motivation up in the coming weeks too!
As i have mentioned previously, i have got quite a bit of painting to do to be ready for the big game on the 27th (all models must be 3 colour+ painted) but i have been plugging away and have made some progress-
I have had my Daemon Prince model for 10 months now but never felt brave enough to paint him before now, even though i use him in almost every game i play!! well theres nothing like a bit of pressure to get you motivated, it took me 2 evenings but hes now at gaming standard (ill add to his highlights etc when i have a few more models painted).
Im really pleased with the outcome, he will really work well with the rest of my armys colour scheme. He might be confused a little for a Daemon Prince of Khorne with his red wings, however that is purely co-incidential as its just the accent colour for the army. Rather than paint him up as following a particular god (would be slaanesh) i want the flexibility right now to field him as any Mark, maybe when i have more daemon prince models i can think about the customisations more.
After getting my arse handing to me by a friends GT Ork army recently, and a constant frustration at how Jo’s Orks are clearly over powered i have finally bowed to my desire to paint me some Orks!
I also plan on starting some Marines/Bloodangels at some point in the near future, knowing this i though Black Reach would be a perfect purchase (especially considering its obscene value for money!)
So, although i should be plouging all my time into my Chaos for our big game on the 27th, i just couldnt help but paint up a Boy and a Marine!

On the 27th September were having a big apocalipse game. Arround 10 players from our local club (TGC) are all chipping in with anything from 500 to 4000 points arranges in about 3 teams.
Not many at our club have painted forces so as a rare treat it has been decided a minimum of 3 colour models must be used for the game. I love the idea however it means i have a bit of a challenge on my hands, as you can see in the picture below i have very few models that fit the bill (those on the right).
[singlepic=114,320,240,,]
Over the coming weeks ill be doing my best to get some of the other models (models on the left) finished so i can make a bit more of an impact on this game.
Units im aiming for are:
-Daemon Prince
-Marine Squad
-Abaddon
-5 Man Terminator Squad
-Defiler
-Landraider
-Zerker squad
Knowing my current track record for painting this does seem a bit ambitious! I will be inlisting the assistance of Jo (if i can pull her away from her orks) to help me plough through!
Now I’m well on the way to completing my second squad of Chaos Marines I’m keen to get some squad identification on them. Ive read a little about this for space marine chapters etc where they will have a number on one of the shoulder pads, however with chaos’s plethora of skulls and icons this becomes almost impossible to achieve.
Before i go any further here’s a reminder of what my guys look like -
[singlepic=104,320,240,,]
The idea Ive had so far is to paint maybe 1 small part of the guys an accent colour. Potentially i thought a boot or the tail armor section? however this does also mean i would need to selects a fair few colours - one for each squad.
If anyone has any suggestions other than this or any thoughts on the matter id be very grateful to hear some ideas!
- Edit -
Cheers Buckle & Onion for your comments much appreciated, im on to wondering if the elbow pads arnt a pretty good location for the customisation?
Thanks to a conversation with Ross i think im a tiny step closer to the squad identification; squad names! there are a few squad names for deathguard floating around the internet and on trading cards that Ross made me aware of and i just love them! here goes:
Leaders | Holgoarg, Typhon, Ujioj, Ignatius Grulgor
Terminator Squad | Gurtur-Fol
Dreadnaughts | Kargul & Haldon-Tal
Havoc Squads | Mortag, Guorzlat & Karhkul
Chosen Squads | Zagart, Grolkar & Locastor
Marine Squads | Deathshroud(mortarions guard), Morturg, Ruggoth-kal, Zurgrat & Kalton-Gul
Bike Squad | Sorrak
Raptor squad | Phordal
Predators | Dawn’s Fire, Death’s Talon(command)
Rhinos | Death Bringer, Purity of will, Hidden Strength(zerker rhino)
Landraider | Mordant
Ships | Barbaros’ Sting, The Indomitable Will, The Spectre of Death, Stalwart(battlebarge), Reaper’s Scythe(battlebarge), Endurance(capital ship)
-> So the question stands, how do i show that these squads are different? could i maybe put a symbol of these squads on the arm of my guys?(do i have the skill for such fine detail?!) maybe a banner for the champion of each squad that signifys thier name?(but i still want each guy to have somthing that makes him part of that squad).
I do think i will paint 1 squad as the ‘lead’ squad with different colour helms, im not sure which colour yet however; they shall be named ‘Deathshroud’.
Hmm, the dilema for the rest continues!
I’m making some real progress with my skeletons, i will be fielding units of 20 on the gaming table but for now i have only finished 10.

As you can see i have also finished the movement tray for these guys. i have aways been of the opinion that the base either makes or breaks a model, the same is true for a movement tray to a unit. it really links all the models together and helps you visualise them as a whole rather than just 10 individuals. Well i think so anyway
as you can see the skeletons mainly follow the same colour scheme as my standard bearer, and are relatively quick to paint, the only thing stopping me finishing the other 30 i have is tedium
